Social inclusion

Inclusion without distinction is at the heart of SFE’s DNA. Life is particularly complicated for people with disabilities in southern Laos. Many are unable to perform daily tasks such as dressing, washing, going to the toilet or even eating.

Following a study, many disabled people told us that they do not have access to appropriate care because medical staff lack the necessary expertise or specialised equipment.

In the villages, people with disabilities are often ridiculed and shunned by the community.

Working with local partners, SFE aims to improve the daily lives of people with disabilities in the following areas

  • Improving the functioning, autonomy and well-being of people with disabilities through regular visits by trained healthcare staff and raising awareness of the specific needs of the people concerned.
  • Improved access to health services by developing accessibility for people with reduced mobility and by raising awareness and training staff in social and medical structures.
  • Improving inclusion in the community by raising awareness of equal rights (including in relation to gender) and the inclusion of people with disabilities in everyday life.
